I couldn’t rate this place high enough. When you are greeted at the door by the owner with a hand shake you KNOW it’s going to be a great experience. The food was incredibly authentic and delicious, the waiters were honest and knowledgeable, and we happened to stumble in on Monday where there was fun live music. My wife and I were very pleased and I look forward to giving them my business for years to come.

The sausage appetizer was great. The moussaka was fantastic. But more importantly, the service was incredible. We're new to Cranford and this will absolutely be a staple for us.

We were originally about to eat some Asian food right across the street and for some reason "Ambeli Greek Taverna" just started glowing from the corner. Lol something told me to give it a shot and I'm so happy I did! The employees were super friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and very pleasing. The food did not take a long time to be served in the midst of a busy time.The food was amazing! Extremely fresh.... and I knew it was freshly made because it was hot for a very long time lol I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Their menu is amazing. Filled with so many delicious options! Great job guys!!!!

First time visit. Was looking for a different sppt to try in the local area and ran across good reviews here. I called in to inquire on a Friday night and they said they dont take reservations. They said you could call in and be put on a waitlist. We wanted to dine outside but when we got there outside tables were limited and occupied. So rather than wait for an outside table, we elected to go inside as the was one table available. The owner was very warm and gracious and seated us promptly. Our waiter was cool and funny. We enjoyed an octopus appetizer and greek salad with salmon and a Greek seafood dish with mussels, calamari, shrimp and pasta. Everything was delicious! They are also a BYOB and we enjoyed a nice bottle from home to pair with our meal! Good food, good service and we will return! I would recommend a visit here. I would give it 4.5 stars, but that is not an option.

The food is exemplary and out of this world. With very limited Greek options in the area, this restaurant is a must see for any lover of Greek, or just Mediterranean style cuisine in general. The staff is lovely (probably because most of them are family in some form or another, either by blood or just through long friendships) which made me feel welcome. The waiters are well informed when asked questions about the menu or just general questions about Greece and its culture. I’ve been to this restaurant over 10 times and every time was nothing short of 5 stars. Can’t wait to be back.

5.0... Absolutely Amazing Food and Service as always. They handled the Mothers Day rush as well as they could. This is a new way of living and working for everyone. We will soon return to dining the way we once knew. Ambeli will always be one of our top spots 😎😎

Just came home from lunch at Ambeli’s 👍We were 31 people and they were like a well oiled machine. The food was exceptional, everything was delicious, the kitchen staff were at the top of their game getting our food made and out hot, The service was exceptional. We were attended to like we were the only people there, and we weren’t, the restaurant was crowded. Billy I can’t thank you enough for making it such a wonderful afternoon lunch for my family. Everyone enjoyed everything.

Our waiter was the nephew of the owner and he was great. He answered our questions and made wonderful recommendations. Our whole party loved the food. We met the owner and he chatted with us like we were family. Glad we skipped dinner in the city to experience this gift to Cranford.

Great authentic Greek food offering both affordable dishes and higher end pricey dishes as well. Their food is great, restaurant is clean and wait staff is very friendly. Sophia was our waitress. She was a true sweetheart, very friendly, humble, and honest. Looking forward to our next trip back soon.

A staple of downtown Cranford. Authentic Greek food for lunch or dinner right near the train. The best part is it's BYOB. They also have outdoor seating in the summer.

We love this place! We have only visited the Cranford location. The food is always delicious, it doesn't really matter what you order. It gets extremely busy though. You should dine early or make a reservation.

I came here with a friend at random. We wanted to try some new food in the area and were going to try a place across the street, but Ambéli had more customers. So we came here instead thinking more customers = better food and/or service. So glad we made this decision! We were beyond pleased. Everyone from the waitress to the owner was friendly. Our table was checked on just enough (not too much not too little) and we even got a nice welcome from the owner. Not to mention, the food was great! I will definitely be back.

Ordered pick-up during COVID-19, organized and very clean. Super friendly service on phone and in person. Feta appetizer was delicious. Order the chicken platter and gyro platter, big portion and tasty.

Had a great meal at Ambeli. I've walked past this place many times but never walked in. One day my family and I decided to go. From the start the service was great, waiters were very attentive and helpful even as the place started to get very busy. The food was well prepared and full of flavor very close to what I've had in Greece. The saganaki was awesome and so were the lamb chops I had. My mom had the musaka and the bite I took was great as well. I'd definitely come back here to try out some more things on their menu. The place is also BYOB.

Excellent service. Octopus was cooked just right, but my chicken was a bit dry. Overall the food was very good. Cozy atmosphere.

I came to this place recommended to get baby lamb chops. They were very good, but thankfully i also ordered grilled octopus and calamari, because those were excellent. But even then, they all fell short for the pastisio. Stunning bechamel in such a delicious and simple dish. Will definitely come back and reccomend to my friends

Super tasty, if you need to eat something else, that is awesomely good in Cranford. French fries with feta, good! Octopuss ala greek, goooood, very good! Pork skewer, super tasty, feta grilled with honey, so good. Sausage greekstyle, top! Meatballs amazing.Plus the baklava is so smooth it's almost a crime.Take your alcohol from the liquor store nearby, they don't have alcohol

Nice restaurant, but the staff was very interested in us eating and leaving. I did feel rushed but maybe it was a bad night for them. I would go back. Keep in kind that its hard to find parking in the area. It's right by the train station do that might bd better than driving.

First time trying this place and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious but what really got me was the welcoming and warm customer service. Will return again, and again, and again. Also, it’s BYOB.

I would love to give it a 4.5 if it was possible. We loved the spreads and cheese assortment. It was amazing. The mixed meat platter was great. The only thing was the souvlaki was a bit over cooked, it was very dry. The rest of it was excellent. The mixed grilled seafood was cooked perfectly, I wish there was a bit more squid, but there was a abundance of shrimp and octopus. We also liked the large amount of choices on the menu.

Great lunch spot! Food is so good, all lunch options come with a lemon chicken soup. We usually get the spread sampler to start, it is so delicious. Definitely a to go place if you're in the area

Hands down one of the best Greek experiences I've had in a long time. Everything was seasoned perfectly, and we definitely will go back. We got the Spanakopitakia, Kria Pikilia,. Avgolemono Soup, Chicken Souvlaki, and Vegetarian Moussaka. The love and skill that went into these dishes was aparent and left us feeling so satisfied and happy!

Nothing special. The food is ok, and that's about it. As food preferences are very personal, one might find the food to be better, so eat there and judge for yourself. Service was good and the place is clean. Lots of street parking around the place.

Have been here many times but decided to do a review. This place is fabulous, the food is excellent and the staff is super nice. The owners are here in the evening and they are totally Greek. One of the best places in NJ to visit.

Outstanding realization of many classic dishes. Management and staff very friendly. City parking easy as well. Arrive early for parking and to miss the worst of the crowds.

Probably the best gyros I've ever had!

Another authentic Greek restaurant. We started with their grilled shrimp in a marinade of spice, capers and peppers. This was a winner with some warm pita. We had a Greek salad minus the lettuce but chunks of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and a big chunk of feta. Another appetizer was the eggplant and zucchini fried chips. Next the chicken souvlaki but the winner was charcoal grilled red snapper with lemon potatoes. No room for dessert. It is byob. The atmosphere was nice nothing special. Price are moderate and service was attentive and friendly. Street parking is a challenge but after 6pm free parking.

Absolutely wonderful place to eat! Very clean and the staff made us feel welcome! This was all that was left of my octopus! Best octopus I have ever had, better than Greece and Cyprus!

Great service, very friendly staff and owner.. delicious food

Wanted to try something new for my birthday/my husband's birthday in January. Went with a group of 10, 8 of which were VERY skeptical. Boy were they WRONG! EVERYONE LOVED the food, the service, the people. We went on a "no reservations after 6 p.m." night, and after explaining about it being my birthday, not only did they go out of their way to make a table available for us, the owner personally came out to talk with us and apologize for the wait. The food was OUTSTANDING, the portions were more than ample, AND the prices were VERY reasonable. We were actually planning on going back next week to celebrate the birthdays of 2 of the people who were with us on our last visit, but now that's not possible because of the health crisis. We decided to postpone the celebration until things are back to normal. In the meantime, we are hoping they are offering takeout. A TRULY WONDERFUL experience, one which we look forward to doing again and again!

This is genuine family owned and operated Greek restaurant, in the heart of downtown Cranford, NJ. Seven of our family went for an early dinner on a weekday before heading off to a show in NY. The service was fast, attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. The menu has a nice selection of each authentic Greek cuisine. With seven people, we were all impressed with the food and all of us enjoyed what we ordered. The fried octopus appetizer was delicious and the the pork chop was outstanding, best I have ever had. We were too full to order desert, but next time we will be sure to save room. I was chatting with the waiter and the owner came out to thank us and shared some fun facts about Greek culture. My husband and I had such a great experience here- we went for his birthday and Chris and his team went to the extra effort of making his birthday special with a song and (multiple) desserts and we couldn’t have imagined a better way to spend the night. Food is authentic and delicious and the live music on Monday’s are a must see!
